Exploring Puyallup, WA

Since we've relocated I've made it my goal to try something new every month. My plan is just to make blog posts on the towns that we are exploring and continue to add to them as we try new things.

Because we live close to Puyallup we've explored it the most

How do you pronounce Puyallup? This was my first question when we moved to the area and I was horrified that I was going to pronounce it wrong and have people make fun of me. My dad calls it "Polly-oop" which is totally wrong! The best I can come up with is "Pew-all-up"

Hikes/ Outdoor exercise opportunities:

Puyallup/Orting Bike Trail:

This is a massive bike trail system that starts in Puyallup and follows the old railroad line through Orting and into Buckley. It is 21 miles long and continues to grow. You can bike or walk the trail and it offers beautiful views of Mt. Rainier and the Puyallup River

Bradley Lake Park

Bradley Lake Park is a community park with a mile long paved trail that goes around the lake. There are some nice areas for picnicking and there is a large playground. This is nice if you just want a quick walk to stretch your legs. Its located by many stores so we often build a trip here into an errand day to get some exercise in between running errands.

Wildwood Park

Wildwood is forested 80 acre park in Puyallup. It also has a playground and picnic areas. It features a 0.7 mile trail. This would be a great trail to introduce kids to hiking in the woods or if you are looking for a woodsy hike but not a difficult hike.

Clark Creek Trail

This is a fun 2.2 mile look hike that starts at clarks creek park. There is plenty of parking and bathrooms at the the trailhead. We hiked this trail in winter and it was very muddy so be prepared! Dogs are allowed on this trail. This trail also intersects with the Puyallup loop trail if you want to make it a longer hike (Puyallup loop trail is roughly 4 miles long)

Restaurants we've tried in Puyallup

- Farm 12- very good farm to table restaurant. It also has a very good brunch/weekend menu. It has a coffee shop within the restaurant.
-Trapper's Sushi- Technically this is a franchise sushi place but we went to the one in Puyallup. Good sushi and has some local rolls to try.
-Happy Bento- a small hole in the wall local  sushi restaurant- we enjoyed it.
-The Rock- this is a fun wood fired pizza place. We really enjoyed the pizza and their calzones
-Forever Sushi- this is a little hole in the wall conveyer belt sushi restaurant- we really enjoyed it and its a great way to try new sushi rolls without committing to the whole roll.

Seasonal Things in Puyallup

Puyallup is home to the Washington State Fairgounds. The state fair goes on for 3 weeks in September. It has the grandstand stage. In 2021 we went and saw Gabriel Iglesias during the fair and really enjoyed it.

Oktoberfest Northwest

This German festival takes place at the Puyallup fairgrounds the first weekend of October.  It features German and local beer and German food and music.
