Tonie Reviews
Tonie box pros and cons
Pros
- Very durable and toddler friendly. They can drop it and carry it around the house with them. My toddler has accidentally covered it in hand sanitzer before and it survived. It's purposely designed for little hands
- The tonies are fun and eye catching-honestly this is a pro and a con- but they do make it more engaging
- Creative tonies- I have done so many things with these and they are some of my toddler's favorites. You can tailor it to their hearts content
-Screen free entertainment- we have found that our toddler plays really well independently when the tonies are on. Plus it's a good alternative to putting on a show
Cons
- I don't like how you skip to the next track- you essentially have to "smack the box".
- My toddler wants to play with the tonies. We've had to keep them up high. I am afraid of my baby trying to eat them or us losing them. For how much each one costs I don't like to let him play with them out of fear of losing it. It's gotten better but it was a battle at first.
Tonie Originals
Creative Tonies
This is where it's at- it's been a great tool. I've recorded myself reading my toddlers favorite books and he loves to listen to them. We've also had family members record themselves reading stories so that he can listen to their voices. You can also put music on the creative tonies.
Potty Training "Poop Tonie"
This one is fun- I think my toddler likes it because it looks like poop (who couldn't love that). I try to put it on if we are doing something as background music, but he typically won't request it. I think it has a good combination of stories and songs about potty training.
Calm Tonie
This one is considered a "hybrid tonie" it has pre loaded material but you can also load more of your own if you choose too.
Book Based Tonies
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
I was not super happy with this one. I purposely got it because we were working on learning the abcs with our toddler. I mistakenly assumed that it would have the abc song at least on there. I will say they read the stories in a fun way and they also read them in spanish. But I wished there were some songs to make it more fun for little kids.
Pout Pout Fish
This one I was really disappointed in. I was so excited because our toddler LOVES pout pout fish. But honestly I thought the narrator of the books was lackluster. Also part of the reason that I love the book was the rhyming scheme and the way that he read it threw off the rhyme. I ended up reading the books myself and putting them on a creative tonie.
Pete the Cat
Sesame Street Tonies
Elmo
This one has been one of our toddler favorites. He loves the songs! If you are between elmo and cookie monster I would get elmo. This is a great tonie for younger kids because it is more song based than story based.
Cookie Monster
This is also a great tonie for young kids. My toddler likes the content on elmo better but we also listen to cookie alot. There are songs on this one but it is more story based. They talk about healthy foods and play pretend kitchen.
Abby Kadabbie
This one basically is just a good variety if you've heard too much to elmo or cookie monster tonie. Both elmo and cookie are featured in this with Abby being the main character.
Disney Tonies
Cars
This has been a major hit. This one came with our starter set and we ended up showing our toddler the cars movie because of it. The songs are fun and then it has a retelling of the original cars movie. My toddler requests is often.
Olaf
This one is also popular with my toddler but he LOVES olaf. This has music from the Frozen/Olaf shorts. It also has a story of Frozen fever on it.
Anna
Anna has all the songs from Frozen 2 and the story of Frozen two. My toddler likes it- the story is at the end so we typically skip that part.
Elsa
Elsa has all the songs from the original Frozen movie. She definetly gets some beef for "Let it go". If your expecting it to sound just like the original song then this is not the tonie for you. My toddler likes the songs and doesn't notice the difference. It also has the story of Frozen at the end.
Moana
This is a big hit in our house. Both of my kids LOVE the Moana movie. It has all the Moana songs and the story of Moana at the end.
Belle
If you like beauty and the beast then this is a good tonie. It has all the beauty and the beast songs and then the story at the end.
Woody
This one is kind of ehhh for me. The first song is from the Toy story movie is ok. The next few songs drive me nuts but my toddler likes it.
Winnie the Pooh
This has a few songs on it- the first is the theme song of Winnie the Pooh. I'm kind of ehh on this one. If you LOVE Winnie the Pooh then maybe it's for you but honestly I could pass on it.
Finding Nemo
This one has received a lot of beef for not being that good. I would agree with that. I think it's hard because there are no original songs from this movie. The first song drives me nuts but my toddler loves it- I think it might just be him.
Other tonies
Blaze and the Monster Machines
This one is fun but I think it's better for "older" toddlers (3.5+). It has the theme song from the show but then it has stories about the monster trucks. It requires a toddler who is willing to listen to a story rather than a song.
Blippi
Oh my gosh. We have never seen this show- and now we never will because this dude is annoying. But my kids love listening to it. But he tends to go "missing" from time to time if my husband and I need a break from him.
Thomas the Train
This is another one that I think would be better for older toddlers. It's mostly stories so again you need to have a toddler that is willing to listen to a story.
