Year 3 of Vegetable and flower garden

Spring

This spring we planted new grass seed in our back area. Our goal is to have this area cleared out for next year so our toddler can run and play back there and not get hurt.

We made many trips to the yard waste dump to get rid of excess branches that we are still cleaning out our yard.

My lupine in my front flower bed is really taking over and I love it!

This is our first year we were able to harvest asparagus! It was so yummy!!

Summer

We got a TON of strawberries this year- my toddler loved picking them so much!

We also invested in a mini tractor. Our push lawn mower finally took its last breath and its something we had been putting off for a while. Because we got the tractor we had to come up with a place to put it which leads us to a project we completed in fall.

I got a ton of hostas from a neighbor on a buy nothing site and used them to fill in my garden a bit. Unfortunately I realized the deer like hostas too. Ughhh

We also built a play house for our kids to play with. It was a ton of work but we get so much use out of it now because we don't live near a park.

Fall

We built a shed in order to store the tractor. We decided to go with metal for cost effectiveness and weather resistance. Unfortunately our tractor didn't actually fit in it (Whoops) So we ended up having to rearrange some things and put our tractor in the shipping container instead. We also attached a rain barrel to it to collect water for watering plants and avoid water building up in the floor of the shed

We did a major clearing of the back and threw more grass seed down in hopes that some would grow. We will probably do another formal planting next spring.

I also got a lot of black eyed susan plants on sale for labor day weekend and we planted a ton right off our back deck to fill in the space.

Overall just a few updates nothing too crazy this year- but it's nice to see the plants start to mature.
